The JCS Annual General Meeting will take place in person once again at JCS, Walton Community Care Centre, May Terrace on Thursday 29 September from 6pm.

JCS and our volunteers are delighted to announce that from Wednesday 6 July Eddie Binnie will be running a new JCS Sing-along sessions alongside Welcome Wednesday!
JCS Sing-along sessions will meet once a month from 1.45 pm in the Walton Community Care Centre at May Terrace. Pop along for a Sing-along or drop by after you’ve enjoyed some refreshments at Welcome Wednesday!

We want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy summer holidays. That’s why we are pleased to be able to offer Summer activity grants for anyone struggling to meet additional costs
associated with this time.
This is a one-off grant for households with children, who have limited income. The grant we are offering is £100, plus £50 for each additional child.
This grant is designed to support anyone struggling with the cost of activities during the summer holidays.

Friend of Jewish Care Scotland (JCS) Leslie Barback scooped the Outstanding Achievement award at the Scottish Care: Care at Home and Housing Support Awards 2022. Leslie was recognised at the ceremony held at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow on Friday 13 May.
The team at JCS nominated Leslie, 83, for the award as they were so impressed by his resilience and determination despite a particularly challenging couple of years. Leslie has overcome a lot of change, loss and health concerns but throughout he has remained optimistic, determined and hasn’t lost his “great sense of humour”!
Despite losing his beloved wife, a hospital stay due to COVID-19 and mobility issues, Leslie still manages to get about the house himself, get out and about within the community and manage any task that he sets his mind to!
Overcoming a lot of personal and physical challenges, Leslie continues to remain at home receiving visits from the JCS team as well as recently deciding to return to the JCS Wellbeing Hub, something that seemed so unlikely following a stroke a few years ago.
Vicki McPhee, Team Leader at JCS, said: “Leslie’s positive attitude and determination inspire all of our team, and so many people within the community. Leslie cares a lot not just about his community, but for everyone around him.”
Leslie was unable to attend the awards ceremony but JCS Support Worker Dan Rezkalla collected the award from Michelle McManus on his behalf. The team at JCS presented Leslie with his award at the JCS Wellbeing Hub on Thursday 19 May where he celebrated with friends and cake!

JCS are celebrating Carers Week 2022 by offering a Carers Kit goody bag to someone who has gone above and beyond to care for someone in the community!
Carers Week, which runs from 6 to 12 June 2022, is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
We are looking for Carers who go above and beyond to care for someone in the community. Nominate someone you thinks deserves a treat and recognition of all that they do and JCS will deliver a Carers Kit goody bag during Carers Week.

East Renfrewshire HSCP are looking for people to contribute to the Scottish Government’s Health and Social Care Strategy for Older People. They want people to share their needs/wishes/opinions/experiences to support the development of this National Strategy, but also shape activities and services locally.
The local consultation is in four parts and the HSCP has a survey live for each section so you can respond to all areas, or just those that matter the most to you:

Julie Marshall, the Chief Executive of Jewish Care Scotland (JCS) left her role on Friday 29 April after three and a half years leading the charity. Julie has spent over twenty years working with health and social care organisations in various roles and is leaving the sector to take up an exciting role as Senior Strategic Consultant within the UK Government.
Reflecting back on her time at JCS, Julie says: “I have enjoyed my time at Jewish Care Scotland – it’s been such a privilege to serve such an important community and to support such a great, motivated, and highly skilled staff group. During my almost three years and eight months in role, we’ve seen many changes and challenges – the pandemic being the biggest – and we’ve overcome these together. We’ve achieved so much but some of our biggest achievements have been creating our first strategic plan, redesigning our services to ensure they are future proof and based on what people want and need, investing in our staff to ensure that we have the right people in the right positions, aligning salaries and creating a new structure where advancement is possible to ensure that everyone is treated well – all this has only been possible because we have all worked together to make a difference. I know I am leaving the organisation in good hands with not only the senior manager’s but with everyone who plays a vital role in making such a huge contribution to the lives of others.”
“I believe that what we provide is so special and makes such a difference, that it’s priceless.”
The Board and staff team at JCS would like to thank Julie for her leadership, guidance and vision over these past three and a half years, and we wish her the best in her new role.

The Board of JCS are taking this chance to explore potential opportunities to change the structure of the organisation. This coincides with the Boards’ exploration of opportunities to work with other key organisations in our community.
Dr Richard Groden, Chairman of JCS, says: “As we wish Julie every success in her new role with the UK Government, The Board and I have chosen to briefly pause the recruitment of the vacant Chief Executive role to explore other potential options. We are looking at all possibilities including how we could work more closely with other key organisations in our community.
Our services will continue uninterrupted and our priority, as ever, will be supporting those in our community requiring our services. We are confident that our Senior Managers and the entire team at JCS, with our support, will continue to provide the much-valued care and support to our clients.”

Huge thank you to Laura and Derek Harrison for opening their gardens as part of Scotland’s Gardens Scheme. The event was so well attended, with great weather and fantastic baking.
JCS would like to thank all of our volunteer bakers and volunteers who gave up their time to come along and help with the plant sale, bake sale and carrot cake raffle!
All funds raised are being split between Scotland’s Gardens Scheme, JCS and the British Red Cross Ukraine appeal. We’ll keep you posted with the total raised!
